Located at the ruins of the ancient town of Dionysus, from which caravans used to leave for the trek across the Western Desert to Bahariyya Oasis, is a Ptolemaic temple to the Egyptian crocodile god Sobek. The entire structure is open to visitors, including the roof, from which you can see the surrounding area and discern the structures of Dionysus buried under a thin layer of sand.

HOURS OF OPERATION:
Daily, 9 AM – 5 PM

TICKET COST:
Egyptian: 1 LE
Foreign: 20 LE
50% reduction for bearers of International Student ID Card

LOCATION:
Near Qasr Qarun, west bank of Lake Qarun in the Faiyum.

DIRECTIONS:
BY SERVICE TAXI (from al-Faiyum): go first to Abshaway, then change taxis to go to Qasr Qarun. Ask for “Ma’abd Qasr Qarun”

The site is not wheelchair accessible.
