Located
at the ruins of the ancient town of Dionysus,
from which caravans used to leave for the
trek across the Western Desert to Bahariyya
Oasis, is a Ptolemaic temple to the Egyptian
crocodile god Sobek. The entire structure
is open to visitors, including the roof,
from which you can see the surrounding
area and discern the structures of Dionysus
buried under a thin layer of sand.
