Female Brewer

This statuette of a female brewer shows her kneading mash, made from moistened barley bread, in a strainer. Female servants are often depicted with a bare torso, wearing only a skirt. Servant statuettes like this one were placed in tombs so that they could continue to carry out their daily duties for the benefit of their masters in the next world. This statuette was discovered in the mastaba of Meresankh III at Giza.
