Face of King Akhenaten

This fragment of a colossal statue depicts Akhenaten with an elongated face, long nose, and thick lips, characteristic features of the Amarna style of art. On his forehead is a uraeus, a hooding cobra. Akhenaten, thought of by many as the world’s first monotheist, rejected the state cult of Amun-Re in favor of the Aten, the deity embodied in the sun-disk.
