Scene from the Coffin of Khonsu

This scene from the wooden coffin of Khonsu, an artisan who was part of the community who built and decorated the royal tombs of the New Kingdom, shows the deceased worshipping the celestial cow, Mehet-weret (“the great flood”). The entire coffin is decorated with texts and images from the Book of the Dead. It was found in the tomb of Sennedjem (TT 1), Khonsu’s father, at Deir el-Medina on the west bank in Luxor.
